Match of the day
Match of the Day in comprised of two main units highlights and punditry, the highlights are pre-recorded but stitched together seamlessly and the same commentary is kept from the live recording to create an intense atmosphere and lack of foreshadowing for those who do not already know the scores.
The other unit of the show is shot live in a studio and comprises of three pundits one of which is always Gary Lineker and the first shot in the studio will always pan round to Gary Lineker, where he will introduce the show and the fixtures that they will include, the camera will then cut to his guests of which there are usually two he will then introduce them one by one the camera will cut to both of them separately. Reasons for multi camera production over single camera
There are plenty of reasons for using multi camera in motd over a single camera style, in the studio they use it because they have a selection of pundits so will have multiple cameras set up because each pundit will need there own angle as well as having a wide angle as well this is because the pundits will usually be having a discussion and it will require the camera to cut to there faces quickly. When they are showing the actual sports there are dozens of different camera angles used they use a wide for open play that will pan across the field following the path of the ball around players and then every time there is an incident there will be a collection of tight shots of tackles and shots accompanied by medium distance shots usually in slow motion of the goals. In summary they would not be able to show such a diverse variety of shots. discuss the style in which it is put together ( speed, graphics music used)

They use graphics pretty much constantly throughout the show to give visual queues and to help explain the comments they are making and also just to make the show exciting to the eye and keep the audiences attention. One they use quite often when talking about the line ups is a wide show of the studio on which they overlay pictures of the players and managers This season they have been animated to look like banners hanging they also have graphics of the players standing in front of the pundits to show the formation of the players.
Graham norton show
Target audience
The show has a very wide target audience ranging from the ages of 16-65 as it is aired at 10:35 the target audience will most likely not be much younger than 16 as most younger people will be out or going to bed. The audience is shown laughing at the host introductory section, in this section the camera pans round to him and he introduces the show and the upcoming guests. The show is mostly used as a promotion device by the stars appearing on it and gives films and actors a bit of primetime advertisement.
Graham norton is very chatty and knows how to speak to people to get them to reveal things this is a skill he would have picked up from the radio show he presents in which in parts of it he talks to people with life problems but does it in a very gossipy way which takes the weight off the topic.
Identify some codes and conventions that could apply to your selected show format (not just a list you must also explain the codes and conventions that have been applied in the shows you chosen what do they say to the audience).
Using codes and conventions like denotation in the show helps add a comical element, graham will often have sections where he shows things he has found in the internet with captions underneath sometimes loosely translated from other languages the captions will often not make sense which is quite humorous. Although graham will have seen these images before he will put on a front like they are almost new to him, and each of the guests will have varied reactions each of which will be quite funny.
Almost all chat shows use a similar format shows like the Jonathan ross show, alan Carr chatty man, jimmy fallon live, Conan, the late late show use the same style of interview and camera work each has a band over in the corner and the host in a different section within the same stage. Graham norton does have some other more unique elements like the way that all the guests sit together on the same sofa where as in the other shows they will come out once at a time this means that the graham norton show will use more cameras than the other shows as they will have to have close cut cameras for each guest this format is successful as it shows how the guests interact with other people and you can see some guests getting quite star struck all these moments can be captured because of the multi camera element.
Reasons for multi camera production over single camera and pace
Using multi camera production in aa chat show like this makes the show more interesting and fast pace if they were to use a single camera they would not be able to cut away to reactions from the guests and norton. The use of multi camera also means they can cut away to the audience reactions which also adds another interesting element.
